Origins
We were founded in 2005 by four Chartered Accountants and MBA’s who saw a need for an economical, value-driven agency for accounting and finance professionals. Leveraging our network, we gained success early on and rapidly became a full-service staffing firm, adding a generalist recruitment brand to our solutions in 2007.
Re-launching in 2009 as Matchstick Search Consultants, our passion for servicing Food, Beverage, and CPG blossomed, and we made the decision to structure our company as an industry focused business, versus the more common functionally centric agency.
Our commitment and dedication to the Food, Beverage, and CPG community is strong, and we are confident that over the next few years we will continue to enhance our brand within these segments. We will continue to change as new technologies, processes, and innovations unfold.
Our Leaders
Ed Pintwala - President
Ed’s passion for the Food industry stems from a young age growing up around a family owned food processing business. His influence has been instrumental in shaping the Company to date. His knowledge of the entire vertical from agriculture, food processing, import/export, to retail, and food service, truly distinguishes the Company within the recruitment industry and provides value added insight to both job seekers and employers.
Ed has proven to be a respected, honest and dependable Manager who understands both corporate goals and hiring manager’s needs when sourcing top talent. Having work
Ed with several SME’s and multi-nationals on recruitment assignments, Ed applies a logical, proven approach to identifying and connecting professionals with employers. Ed has an Honours Bachelor of Business from Wilfrid Laurier University.
When not speaking to job seekers and scheduling interviews Ed can most likely be found outdoors with his family and dog – ‘Ike’ the Husky. Whether hiking, boating, snowmobiling or fishing, surely if Ed was born 200 yrs ago he would have traded in his recruitment career to be an ‘Explorer’.
Focus: Technical ‘plant’ roles ranging from Production, Engineering, Maintenance, QA and R&D as well as Commodity Traders, within Food Processing, Consumer Goods and Trading / Distribution companies.
Justin Pintwala - Recruitment Consultant
Justin began with Matchstick in late 2011. Previously, he worked at Ernst & Young Corporate Finance for three years in the mid-market M&A department. After three years of finance, he wanted to explore other fields and work on his ability to sell and connect people to amazing careers. Joining up with what his brother had established came at the perfect time.
Justin’s ability to understand what motivates and drives people makes him a valued contributor to Food and Beverage companies. Justin has a Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia and after completing all three levels of the CFA, his charter is currently pending.
Focus: Foodservice Sales, Retail Sales, B2B / Industrial Sales.
Debbie Davidov - Recruitment Consultant (currently on mat leave)
Debbie’s passion and knowledge of the industry comes from 13 loyal years working for Cara Foods where she started as a server and worked her way up to various corporate management level positions. She has an impeccable sense for identifying talent and following each assignment through to successful completion. Debbie’s transition into the recruitment industry couldn’t have been more natural – her foodservice industry experience and knowledge shines through when serving clients and candidates alike.
When not networking with food professionals Debbie will most likely be found taking her son to and from daycare, and treasuring the moments she gets to spend with him, her husband and family.
